There’s something powerful about seeing yourself reflected on screen. For communities whose faces and stories have too often been missing from leading roles, representation can change what feels possible. It’s a belief close to the heart of Nicole Schoen, an Australian actor and producer of Filipino and German heritage, and a passionate advocate for multicultural storytelling.

Growing up in a migrant household surrounded by different languages, flavours and perspectives, Nicole learnt to navigate the contrasts of her heritage. Based on Kaurna Country in Adelaide, she draws on these experiences in her creative practice, championing stories that reflect Australia’s cultural diversity.

Working across film, television and commercials, Nicole brings her heritage into performances through gestures and turns of phrase. Her credits include 7 Minutes to Rice, which premiered at Flickerfest in 2025, and The Way of the Wind in 2026. Behind the camera, she has worked across casting, talent management and production.

For Nicole, every project is an opportunity to learn, collaborate and tell stories that reflect the world around her. Currently developing a feature with writer-director Manuel Ashman set between Australia and the Philippines, she hopes to see more Asian-Australian actors not simply included on screen, but leading the stories being told.

Dare we dream

“I’d love to see more Asian-Australian actors in leading roles, both here and internationally, and more opportunities to tell multilingual, multicultural stories that reflect the Australia we live in. I’m also excited to keep developing a feature with Manuel Ashman set between Australia and the Philippines. And, of course, landing a role in Crazy Rich Asians would be a dream!”
