Poetry shapes the way Parth Rahatekar thinks. Perhaps that is what makes the core of their projects throb with emotion. A multi-hyphenate creative from India now based in Naarm (Melbourne), Parth’s favourite thing is to bring a little necessary courage and mischief to the table – work that feels emotionally honest, culturally alert and unafraid to push against neat expectations.

Before Parth was born, their parents dreamed of moving to Australia, though their visa application was denied at the time. Years later, Parth now carries that unfinished family story while building a life and creative practice here. They are inspired by the lyricality of culture and the vulnerability of family – how words carry emotion across generations and create spaces of warmth and vibrance.

That emotional instinct carries through both editorial and commercial work. From writing brand fiction for Stranger & Sons Gin in India, to weaving poetic language into campaigns for Wari Art and contributing toward stronger queer representation through work with Hyatt Hotels.

There is a willingness to take creative risks in Parth’s approach. They value being challenged and seeing ideas morph through collaboration, trust and experimentation. Perhaps that is what makes the work resonate so deeply.

Dare we dream

“I don’t think I have a dream client as much as I have dream trajectories or concepts. Sometimes, I want to work with everyone. Sometimes, no one. I want to create a portfolio that can be used as a reference for someone else’s dream. To be in a room full of people, reading out my words, and them echoing those back to me because they know them already.”
