Growing up across three continents has given Panashe Mugayapi a distinct way of seeing. Born in Zimbabwe, raised in Liverpool and now working between Naarm (Melbourne) and London, his perspective has been shaped through constant movement – across countries, cultures and identities, each leaving its own imprint on how he documents the world around him.

Working across photography, film and creative direction, Panashe is drawn to visual storytelling that carries emotion and atmosphere in equal measure. Whether through commercial, fashion or documentary work, his images feel lived-in, cinematic and deeply human. For him, image-making is a form of memory, capable of holding feeling long after a moment has passed.

That thinking sits at the centre of Beautiful Black Boys, an ongoing series exploring African Australian masculinity, kinship and beauty. Rather than framing Black life through hardship alone, his work turns toward tenderness, ritual and friendship – documenting the richness, intimacy and cultural pride already thriving within the community.

Soon to launch PAN STUDIO alongside collaborator Noah daCosta, Panashe continues to build work across fashion, sport, music and cultural projects, driven by a broader mission: expanding how Black stories are represented within creative industries.
